Gabrielle Chanel opened a millinery shop in Paris in 1910 and built the house on jersey, tweed and a rejection of the corseted silhouette. Its leather goods follow one idea: a quilted flap bag carried on a chain, leaving the hands free. The 2.55 dates from 1955 and set the diamond quilting, the shoulder chain and the rectangular clasp that later lines rework. Matthieu Blazy became artistic director in 2025, after Virginie Viard and Karl Lagerfeld. In resale the flap bags dominate. The Timeless/Classique and the 2.55 are the reference points, with the Boy offering a squarer, harder-edged reading and the Chanel 19 a softer one. The Wallet On Chain and the Vanity cover the smaller end, and the Gabrielle and Coco Handle draw steady attention.
