Kenzo Takada left Japan for Paris in 1964 and opened his first shop there in 1970, selling clothes cut with a flatness and a use of print that Paris had not seen; the house was built on colour and on pattern mixed without apology. LVMH bought it in 1993, Takada retired at the end of that decade, and he died in 2020. Nigo has been artistic director since 2021. Bags are a smaller part of the business than clothing and follow whatever graphic language the house is using at the time, which is why the tiger head appears on so much of what is listed here. The Kalifornia is the busiest line, with the Tiger styles and the Pagodon behind it. Much of the range is canvas and coated fabric, so the state of the print is the thing to check.
