Paco Rabanne

733 listings · 4 models

Paco Rabanne, born in Spain and trained in architecture, opened in Paris in 1966 with dresses made of plastic discs and hammered metal linked by rings — clothes that were built rather than sewn. That chainmail is still the whole signature of the house. He died in 2023, the year the label shortened its name to Rabanne, and Julien Dossena, who had led the collections for thirteen years, has since left. The bags are made from the same linked discs. The 1969, which takes its name from a year in the house's history, is the busiest line here, with the Nano and Sparkle versions after it. Chainmail is nothing like leather to assess: look for missing or bent discs, broken links, and the state of the plating, since a damaged panel cannot be invisibly rewoven.
