Sonia Rykiel opened her first shop in Paris in 1968 and made her name on knitwear — fine-gauge sweaters cut close to the body, seams left on the outside, and the horizontal stripes that became the label's signature. She was a fixture of the Left Bank for decades. Rykiel died in 2016, the company was liquidated in 2019, and the rights were bought soon afterwards and the label restarted. The bags carry the same vocabulary in leather: quilting, stripe inlays, chain straps, and a great deal of black with one bright colour against it. The Domino is the busiest line here, followed by the Copain, the Martha and the Baltard. Much of the range uses soft calf and suede panels, so marking and colour transfer are common and usually decide a listing's condition.
